Beauty unveiled, 2010
My work explores a fascination for the artist, with the aesthetics of inter-cultural dance work stemming from my experience of work and life in a different country. The cultures of the East and West are often presented as a dichotomy. My core interests is to research the cultural differences of East and West, with Eastern Themes influencing my study of West choreographic.
I first began to experiment with the languages of British contemporary dance and Chinese classical dance since 2008, culminating in the piece Beauty Unveiled, performed at Resolution! 2010. I want to develop my skills further by continuing to explore this exciting and challenging East-West dynamic.
Interested in working with various artists (such as musicians, dancers and set designer) to negotiate differences and create new original ways of expression within their respective art forms and cultures. I believe presenting what each is familiar with - in the context of an unfamiliar cross-disciplinary encounter with ‘the other’ - provides not only incentive but added excitement and risk.
